Survey

The survey is in the process. Sororities have a meeting at least twice a month, where every representative from house comes to the meeting and report of the business or news that they have. This last meeting on Wednesday April 8th, the head chair of recruitment have run a survey on how the campus view the sorority. The first question ask what term best describe the sororities or fraternities on campus and the most result for the one term was fun. The second question was what events are the sororities involved on campus and 35 percent of the people on campus had no idea. This meant that the campus where unaware of the sororities activities that involved campus events or volunteer service.
My survey would be similar on the way it would go about. The survey would be ask what people view the sororities on campus and what prevents people from join the sororities on campus. The survey would ask question of what would be the best thing for the sororities to do to get notice on campus. Also, it would have maybe the year of school, and it may have a question asking if the person is already in a sorority and why they decide to join a sorority. The survey is still in a working process on getting the questions down and where the survey is to be done.

Leadership Opportunity

I had an opportunity offer to me by the University Program Board on campus to attend a conference Called National Association for Campus Activities (NACA). The NACA convention was held in Rochester, MN for the Northern Plains schools. This was the first time I have ever been to a conference for any organization that has strong ties with the school. I was glad I took the opportunity to go to NACA, because I had learned a lot of information.
The conference had education sessions, showcases of entertainers, and camps that the agency try to promote the sells. The camps for NACA was interesting to me, because the entertainers and agency really push to get the school sales. The camp layout was set up by putting tables in rows and columns that each entertainer had one table to fill their promotion ideas to sell in the space they were given. It was interesting on the ways that the entertainers and agency would do just to get the attention or the chance to be able to perform at an individual school.
The conference had four education session that had lesson that topics were ranged from films to art to group structures. The education session was helpful to me, because I went to the group session and how to become a leader session or what is it to be a leader session. These session provide group activities of working together and how to be a leader to motivate the group to want to do certain things they desire to do. One of the education session even taught me some of the terms of contracting an entertainer and ways to do a contract and the regulations and rules of doing a contract. This was very informal education session that I had learned a lot.
The most fun part about the conference was the show case of the entertainers. The entertainers that was selected to perform at the conference were fun to watch. The performer wanted to sell themselves and they did whatever they could do to get your attention by performing funny acts or showing of their talents. This experience was once in a lifetime and help me get a better knowledge of being a leader. It provide me the skills that I will need to work on now and in the future.

I still unsure of my decision on whether to do a research proposal or a research project for my assignment. I have decided on doing the research proposal, because I feel that it works better for the research part that I am doing. I am research on sorority recruitment (mostly Delta Zeta that is in St. Cloud) on how the recruitment is design now and what ways can be change or taken to change the situation. The situation of having the sororities lacking on multicultural will be pretty written to propose the new styles and techniques that could improve the interest of multicultural people in the sororities.
The literature review has been somewhat confusing to me, but I feel I have figured it out. I just need to do the APA style format, which I guess I haven't been doing. I need to figure out the format by figuring out how to use reference works, but that is confusing too. I really don't like these last few weeks because everything is due and so many test need to get done. So these last days in the semester will be a lot of work especial this research proposal project. I am going to try to get everything done early or on time. This well test my skills of time management.

Literature Review on Foster Care Article

A.)
Buehler, Cheryl and Orme, John G."Foster Family Characteristics and Behavioral and Emotional Problems of Foster Children: A Narrative Review." Family Relations, Vol. 50, No. 1 (Jan., 2001), pp. 3-15

B.)
The article discuss the emotion effects of being in the foster care. There are many factors that may place a child into the foster care that leads to the child emotions feeling a certain way after. Many factors of foster care bring different kinds of emotions for the child to begin once placed in foster care. These factors can bring upon emotional and behavioral problems of child being placed into foster care. The article explain the reason why a child after being place into foster care begin to have emotional, or behavioral problem that is due to parenting, parent's mental health, social support, or how a family operates in their house hold. There are many other factors that are explained in the article that can cause emotional or behavioral problems.

C.)

The article was well written and have a good layout. It is always good to have some form of background for readers to read, because some people may not be aware of the history or current events that occur in certain topics. The article was well informed on the background, but I felt the writer was a little bias in the article. The author seemed to have little or limited information on certain areas of the article, but seems to generalized it into a big population.

D.)

Literature review is important because it help understand the article and analyze the information that is obtain. The article purpose was to compare the different styles of raising a child from foster care and parents, because understanding the difference style help minimize the action that lead to a child have emotional or behavioral problems.

E.)

I feel that the article did generalized a little more than it the information obtain from research supported. Other then generalizing a little bit, I thought the article was well written and informative on the information it obtain on the research.

Research process

Researching for the right materials is hard. I feel that I have information that is needed in the project, but too general for my topic or is repeating over other materials I have founded already. The time for the project is approaching and I still think I have a lot more work ahead of me. It does not help that I have many different assignments in other classes, but I am trying to work on my time management of doing the work for the IM 204 class. I have failed to remember to keep a posting on my blog along with doing two other assignments that slipped my mind. I feel that the information I have obtain is not very beneficial to me and that I still need to keep researching for other materials.
However, some of the materials I have obtain can really help me in my research. Some of the information raise the questions on why some of the organization are stereotyping or segregating some people from joining the greek communities? Or is this happening in other greek organization of multicultural to only accept people that are minorities? Or does the way greek organization prevent certain people from joining or bring certain people to join the organization? These question I still need to find answers of facts that will help me understand it more.

Google search was not a good resource for me in the beginning when I didn't know how to limit the search results. When I first type the words that I wanted to find in the article it resulted in many articles, but I could not use any of the articles. When I used quotations I came up with a better organized and more related articles to my research topic. It help me to eliminate some of the articles and then I could limit the the results by changing the year of published in the search. The google search was more affective to use the extra steps or else you get results that are not related to your topic, but only contains the words in the article. I find that google is still hard to find useful resource that would help support the research project. I do find that google scholar is very good at finding articles that may relate to the research topic. I still have to keep figuring out what to type and settings to get the best results for a search.

Process of Research

My steps for researching in my organization is going very slow process. I check out two books from the library that I believe would help in the research project. One of the books that I checked out was written in a journal style format and describes the process of pledging through first person. The book only helps by describing the process of pleding into the sororities. It explains some of the things that a person may go through during this pledge period.
The second book has more statistics information about sororities and it is informative. The book will help me out on certain information. I haven't figure out on what view or approach on how I am going to write my paper. I am still brain storming on the ways of how I am approaching the proporsal. The researching is still in first phase and in the process of gathering other information that may support or give me ideas on how to go about on my topic for the proporsal.
